History
The Austin-Healey 3000 is one of the most iconic British sports cars of the 1960s. Combining muscular styling, impressive performance and an unmistakable sporting character, the “Big Healey” became a favourite among enthusiasts on both sides of the Atlantic. Today, it remains one of the most recognisable and desirable British sports cars of its generation.
Introduced in 1959, the Austin-Healey 3000 succeeded the earlier 100-Six and featured a larger 2,912 cc six-cylinder engine. With its generous torque, distinctive exhaust note and engaging driving characteristics, the 3000 offered an exhilarating experience both on the open road and in competition. Its success in international rallies further established the model’s reputation as a capable and charismatic sports car.
The BT7 designation identifies the four-seat roadster version of the Austin-Healey 3000 Mk I and Mk II. Unlike the two-seat BN7, the BT7 features occasional rear seats, adding a degree of practicality to its sporting character. The combination of its long bonnet, low stance, sweeping body lines and classic roadster proportions gives the BT7 an unmistakably British appearance.
Behind the wheel, the Austin-Healey offers a wonderfully direct and engaging driving experience. The torquey straight-six engine, traditional manual gearbox and relatively simple mechanical construction create a connection between driver and machine that is increasingly rare in modern motoring. With the hood lowered and the characteristic sound of the six-cylinder engine accompanying the journey, the BT7 captures the essence of open-top sports car motoring.
Today, the Austin-Healey 3000 BT7 is appreciated for its combination of classic British styling, strong performance and motorsport heritage. Its timeless design and enduring popularity have secured its position among the most celebrated British sports cars of the post-war era.
For enthusiasts seeking an authentic classic roadster with plenty of character, the Austin-Healey 3000 BT7 offers a compelling combination of sporting heritage, mechanical charm and the unmistakable pleasure of traditional open-top motoring.
